Drug Control Police agents arrested on Friday a man surnamed Vargas-Cartín, 36, and his mother-in-law surnamed Chaves-Cerdas, 49, for being suspected of transporting a cargo of marijuana and cocaine.

According to the police report, it is alleged that the suspects are connected to the transport of 334 packages of marijuana, with a total weight of 279 kilograms, plus 40 packages of cocaine with a total weight of 40 kilos.

The case started in June when the police found a vehicle that had been dropped during a highway control operation that was taking place in the Quepos Canton, Puntarenas Province.

During the investigation, it was concluded that the two people detained were allegedly connected to the transport of the drug cargo, which is presumed to be taken from the southern part of the country to San José Province.

The suspects were arrested in a raid on their home in Tibás Canton in San josé Province. Cash, a firearm that did not have the legal records and the respective charger were seized, in addition to other evidence for the case.

The suspects were jailed at the Public Ministry cells, where they were interrogated by judicial agents, waiting to see a judge who will consider pre-trial measures.

The judicial agents call on the people to report any suspicion of drug transportation or sales to the confidential line 800-8000-645, where there are bilingual agents who can answer calls in English or Spanish.
