A team made up of government representatives, mayors, and officials of the National Emergency Commission announced the campaign, "Costa Rica works and takes care of itself.” This is a plan to apply the health guidelines to prevent contagion by covid-19 in their communities.

The cantons where the plan will be applied are Alajuela, Naranjo, Poás, San Carlos, Rio Cuarto, Barva, Santo Domingo, Flores, San Pablo, Cartago, La Unión, Oreamuno, Pococí, San José, Curridabat, Desamparados, Aserrí, Heredia, Alajuelita, Escazú, Santa Ana, Mora, Acosta, Goicoechea, Tibás, Coronado and Corredores. Of these, 24 cantons are on Orange Alert due to a quick increase of infected people.

The plan for the application of the sanitary guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health was taken as the basis of the successful experiences that the municipalities have had in reinforcing security in their cantons.

“It is intended to focus on the cantons that have a high hospital occupancy and a top registry of positive cases due to covid-19, the strengthening of actions between institutions to have a coordination between local governments and the authorities of the different institutions to have a more precise approach in those territories,” said Alexander Solís, President of the Commission.

This plan "Costa Rica works and takes care of itself" will have a review every 15 days to analyze compliance with sanitary measures, the reduction of the transmission of cases and the responsibility of the people of the communities.
