Published Tuesday, September 8, 2020 Ban
on driving rule causes fewer
deaths caused by road accidents By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Due to the restriction rules imposed by the government to try to contain the covid-19 pandemic, the so-called ban on driving, 81 deaths were reported between May to August. This is the lowest number of this type of dead recorded this year. "These results are linked to sanitary restriction measures (referring to the ban on driving rule)," said German Marín -Sandí, Director of the Traffic Police. According to Marín, another factor in the decrease in deaths is because drivers are more cautious knowing that there is more presence of traffic officers on the roads. During this year, 192 people have died in road accidents, of these 70 were motorcycle drivers. The car is the second vehicle in which more people died, with 29 cases. The bicycle is third with 25 deaths. The rest are pedestrian deaths or other vehicles. Regarding the possible causes of death, 45 cases are linked to the recklessness of the driver, 41 to the invasion of the lane, and speeding lands in third place with 29 cases. The rest are other offenses committed by pedestrians or drivers. According to the traffic police report, the lowest figure recorded in deaths from road accidents was 79 between September and December in 2011. ----------------------------- Should the hours during the ban on driving be increased to avoid more deaths in traffic accidents?
