Brisa Hennessy, a Tica surfer (a term used for a native of Costa Rica), earned the first hit in the Rip Curl Pro tournament, which is taking place in Bells Beach, Victoria, Australia.

According to the Surf Federation, Hennessy took the top position in the first round of competition on Tuesday with 12.50 points. She beat out two U.S. rivals, Sawyer Lindblad (12.10) and Caitlin Simmers (9.57).

She won the first hit in Australia, barely four days after being discharged from the hospital after an unintentional eardrum perforation (rupture), added the Federation.

Hennessy, from Matapalo Cape, Osa Peninsula, Puntarenas Province, has qualified for the quarterfinals, that will take place this week.

The Rip Curl Pro is a World Surf League (WSL) surfing tournament hosted in Australia and sponsored by the surf business Rip Curl. The competition is conducted yearly around Easter. This year, it is taking place from March 26 to April 5, 2024.

Recently Hennessy finished third in the World Surf League competition held in Hawaii, USA.

Hennessy has qualified to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics which is scheduled to take place from July to August in France.
