The tica surfer (term used for a native of Costa Rica), Brisa Hennessy, from Matapalo Cape, Osa Peninsula, Puntarenas Province, finished third in the World Surf League competition held at Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii, USA.
According to the Sports Institute, on Saturday, Hennessy finished third in the first part of the games, after Carissa Moore of Hawaii, U.S.A. and Sally Fitzgibbons of Australia.
The Costa Rican surfer returns to international games following a nine-month hiatus due to health issues.
In May 2023, the Surf Federation announced her absence from the ISA World Surf Games in El Salvador, because she started medical treatment due to a health problem caused by an adenoma, which is a benign tumor of epithelial tissue with a glandular origin, glandular characteristics, or both.
The World Surf League organizes the 2024 Championship Tour which includes a combined women's and men's schedule featuring nine regular-season events.
The first phase took place at Banzai Pipeline from January 29 to February 10. Now the surfers will compete in the second phase that will take place this week in Sunset Beach, Hawaii, USA.
