Naviera Tambor announced that a new ferry service with the Tambor IV vessel has begun operations in Puntarenas Province.

According to the coastal shipping firm, the new ship will ferry vehicles and passengers across the Nicoya Gulf, between Puntarenas and Paquera beaches.

The new vessel, which can ferry 220 vehicles and 1,500 passengers, is expected to reduce delays on this route, said the firm in its statement.

The new $10 million ship landed in the country after sailing around 7,000 nautical miles from Greece to the Panama Canal before arriving in Puntarenas.

The Naviera Tambor website sells ferry service tickets for $1 to $2 per person and $7 to $90 per vehicle.

In April, the ferry service between Puntarenas and Paquera resumed after the ship collided with a section of the port structure.
