The Electricity Institute (ICE) confirmed the installation of more than 47 internet antennas in eleven indigenous areas across the country.
The Connected Communities Indigenous Territories Program funds the project.
Furthermore, 16 antennas have been deployed this year. Ten of these are on the Caribbean Coast (Limón Province), with the remainder in the southern zone of Puntarenas Province.
Antennas
have recently been installed in the
indigenous communities of Sepecue and
Shuabb in Talamanca Canton, as well as
Sikuaditso and Duchi on the Chirripó
Mountain, both located in Limón
Province.
Vista
de Mar, Altamira de Pavón, and
El Progreso in Guaymi de Conte
Burica; Santa Mara in Cabécar de
Ujarrás; Balls in Bribri de
Cabagra; and Paso Marcos in
Cabécar de Chirripó are other
indigenous villages with
internet connection. According
to authorities, internet
professionals have conducted
community presentations about
the benefits, uses, and care of
the World Wide Web. The
institute intends to deploy 70
antennas for the establishment
of radio bases to catch internet
transmissions next year.
Thirty-nine of these will be
erected along the Atlantic
Coast, with the others spread
over the rest of the country. The
country continues to make
progress in improving access to
new technologies. Recently,
the institute announced its
plans to provide public
schools with internet access
through satellite connection,
connecting over 700 schools
nationwide.
