The Institute of Electricity (ICE) program aims to provide public schools with internet access through satellite connection, connecting over 700 schools nationwide.
The institute has introduced a new satellite network technology that enables internet access by installing a satellite dish in schools, which receives a signal from the Jupiter 2 satellite. This internet signal is linked to a Wi-Fi modem that facilitates wireless internet connection on any device.
Hughes Network Systems, a subsidiary of EchoStar headquartered in Maryland, USA, launched the Jupiter 2 satellite. This satellite offers internet service to over 1.4 million subscribers globally.
This
program is being developed in certain
rural schools because they are situated
in remote areas of the country and do
not have access to the internet. The initial
stage of the plan has successfully
connected 38 schools in Guanacaste
Province to the satellite signal.
Officials anticipate that an additional
44 schools within the province will
receive this technology installation by
the end of the year. According
to the Institute's statistics, so far
this year, fiber optic networks have
been installed to provide internet
access to 1,380 schools in the country. --------
