By the
A.M. Costa Rica staff The
Electricity Institute (ICE) now provides
electricity service for
the first time in
six districts in Costa Rica's rural zone.
The
project cost more than $2.8 million, which
was
funded by ICE and the Rural Development
Institute.
The plan includes power for the districts of Coyolar and San Ramón in Guanacaste Province, Guarumal and Guarumito in San José Province, Chánguena in Puntarenas Province, and Jerusalén in Heredia Province.
To
power 250 houses, the infrastructure
required 24 miles of wiring, 30 concrete
poles, and ten electric power
transformers.
According
to the Public Services Regulatory Authority,
(Aresep), Costa Rica's power grid covers
99.5% of the national territory.
The
accessibility of power in these
communities is a
result of
recent infrastructural upgrades in rural
areas. Electricity
was just
made
available for the first time in
Puntarenas Province's indigenous
territory.
Recently, the ICE
announced the plan to provide a
prepaid electricity supply.
