Improvements to
the electrical infrastructure were developed in Quepos Beach and Parrita Canton, located in
Puntarenas Province, according to the
Electricity Institute (ICE). The project, which
benefits approximately 5,000 customers,
includes the installation of 15 miles of
wiring, semi-insulated cables with
animal protection covers, concrete
poles, and new electric transformers.
These upgrades are designed to enhance
electricity and telecommunications
services in the region. The improvements
are being made during the peak tourist
season, which runs from December 2024
to June 2025. Throughout this
period, power demand typically surges as
hotels, restaurants, and other
tourism-related businesses experience
increased activity due to an influx of
travelers seeking warm weather in Costa
Rica.
"As tourism
continues to grow on the Central Pacific
Coast, especially during the peak
season, ICE is working to ensure a
reliable power supply to meet the rising
demand," said Sebastián
Álvarez, a representative from the
Institute. ICE, the
state-owned provider of electricity and
telecommunications services in Costa
Rica, continues to invest in
infrastructure improvements to support
the country’s growing
population and tourism sector.
