Costa Rica will host the "Planet, People, and Peace (P3) Tourism Summit," which will take place from October 25 to 27 at the Latina University campus in San José.
The National Chamber of Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism and the Tourism Institute are organizing the event to bring together renowned speakers in sustainable tourism.
The summit will present 23 specialists on topics such as tourism in the face of a climate emergency, global difficulties in tourism, sustainable urban regeneration and market trends among others.
Among the international exhibitors are Julie Cheethman from South Africa, Edith Alusa from Kenya, Carlos Zegarra from Peru, Ana María Cañavera and Carolina Fernández Jansink from Mexico, Juan Carlos Heaton from Peru and Jorge Moller from Chile.
The summit will also cover themes such as using good practices to reduce waste output, preserve energy, and monitor and compensate for the carbon footprint caused by tourism, according to Dayana Hernández, director of the Chamber.
More than 1,800 people are expected to attend, according to officials.
Costa Rica's tourism industry is a significant contributor to its economy. As of June, over 1,338,000 tourists visited the country, setting a new record compared to the 1,336,000 visitors recorded in the same period in 2019, before the covid-19 pandemic.
