President Rodrigo Chaves-Robles and Minister of the Presidency Laura Fernández-Delgado issued a presidential decree declaring a State of National Emergency on Wednesday in response to the country's emergencies due to severe rains. The civil state of emergency allows the National Emergency Commission to deal with disaster areas and obtain more resources to respond to crises resulting from the country's extreme rains. The Commission is in charge of responding to emergencies by giving help in impacted areas, handling emergency funds used to cover the costs of evacuating those living in risk zones and repairing damaged infrastructure, among other duties.
The
presidential order went into effect on
Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, after
being published in the government's
official gazette, La Gaceta, and will
remain in effect until the
administration declares that the
national emergency has ended.
The
National Emergency Commission (CNE)
works with people and emergency
professionals to strengthen, sustain,
and enhance the county's ability to
plan for, defend against, respond to,
recover from, and reduce any potential
hazards.
