The Costa Rican sports team won numerous prizes for competing in the Central American Student Games, which are being held at the National University's Center for Human Movement Sciences and Quality of Life located in Heredia Province.


According to the Sports Institute, the Costa Rican team won 10 first-place categories, 6 second-place categories, and 3 third-place categories as of Sunday.


Athletes have engaged in a variety of sports at the student games, including road running, shot put, swimming, javelin throwing, long jump, high jump, and pole vault among others.


In events like the men's shot put, men's long jump, women's javelin throw, women's 100-meter sprint, and men's 100-meter sprint, the Costa Rica team had taken first position.




One of the last winners was Costa Rican athlete Andrés José Nuñez, with a shot put throw of 14.88 meters,  took the first position after the games on Sunday. In the same competition, Steven Alfredo Martinez, another athlete from Costa Rica, came in second with a distance of 12.04 meters.

 

The participation of Costa Rican athletes in this competition, which was restarted this year after being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was sponsored by the Institute of Sports.


The Central American Student Sports Games, were established in 1996 to foster unity and peace among the seven nations of Central America.


The athletics team joins the rankings of other Costa Ricans who have been recognized in international competitions. Last week, Yokasta Valle the professional boxer won a fight to keep her two champion titles.
