The
company said it will build an
18,000-square-foot facility in the
Coyol Free Trade Zone in
Alajuela province, marking a significant
expansion of its global manufacturing and
development capabilities.
The site will include a 3,500-square-foot cleanroom and is designed to support medical device component manufacturing, with the capacity to expand over time.
From the new facility, Switchback will support both existing customer programs and new development initiatives. The company specializes in designing, testing and manufacturing minimally invasive medical devices, with a focus on neurovascular and structural heart catheters. The building is expected to open in 2027 and will enable Switchback to advance development programs and scale high-volume production while improving cost efficiency for customers. The company said its model combines responsive development capabilities with scalable manufacturing, allowing it to support customers earlier in the product lifecycle, an approach it says distinguishes it from traditional manufacturing-focused operations in the region.
“Our
Coyol facility allows us to quickly
deliver critical components such as
extrusions, braided shafts and
more, while we continue building out
our Evolution facility, which will
serve as our top-level assembly
production site in Costa Rica,” said
Brady Hatcher. “Together, these
capabilities enable us to support
customers from early development
through full-scale manufacturing, both
locally and globally.” Switchback
is among several U.S. companies
expanding operations in Costa Rica. Recently, Solesis
announced the opening of a new
manufacturing facility in the
country.
