                               Traffic
deaths in Costa Rica are on the rise,
with 427 fatalities reported as of
                                  September 2025, according to the
                                  Ministry of Public Works and
                                  Transportation (MOPT). That
figure marks a sharp increase from the
353 deaths recorded during the same
                                  period in 2024, a rise of 74
                                  fatalities. Motorcyclists
remain the most vulnerable road users,
accounting for 226 deaths, or 53% of
                                  the total. Drivers represented 65
                                  fatalities (16%), cyclists 31 (7%),
                                  and pedestrians 43 (10%). The
                                  remaining victims were passengers or
                                  operators of other vehicles.
