More than 100 medical specialists will provide consultations, diagnostic tests and other health services during a two-day medical outreach campaign organized by the Social Security System (CCSS) on Oct. 22-23.

The medical team from Carlos Luis Valverde-Vega Hospital, a public hospital in the San Ramón Canton of Alajuela Province, will lead the campaign, which aims to provide care to people with pending medical needs.

Services will include dermatology consultations, biopsies, blood glucose screenings, blood pressure checks, nutritional counseling, electrocardiograms and vaccinations. The campaign will also offer general medical consultations and accept blood donations.

Services will be available from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days at the National Learning Institute (INA) facilities in Alajuela Province. The campaign is intended for people awaiting medical examinations or seeking any of the medical assistance being offered.

Hospital staff will work alongside teams from local public clinics, known as EBAIS, in the San Ramón, Palmares and Zarcero cantons, as well as specialists from hospitals in Mexico (San José), Puntarenas and Alajuela, the CCSS noted.

Organizers expect to serve approximately 1,000 patients previously assigned to the Alajuela hospital system. Officials are contacting eligible patients using information from the Social Security registration system to schedule appointments.

Residents of Alajuela, including foreign nationals with a Costa Rican residency identification card (DIMEX), who have pending medical appointments or wish to receive any of the services offered may request registration for care at the information desk at Alajuela Hospital or at any local EBAIS clinic.

The initiative is one of several large-scale public health campaigns launched by the CCSS this year. In August, health authorities launched a campaign in Puntarenas Province to advance surgery dates for patients who had waited the longest for procedures listed under the hospital’s General Surgery category.

The CCSS is the state-run organization responsible for the country’s public health care system.
