Talk about waking up to life-changing news. One lucky lottery player is now a billionaire after hitting the $1.04 billion Powerball® jackpot in the Aug. 12 drawing, according to the lottery company.

The winning ticket was purchased at Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh, located at 310 N. 36th St. in Quincy, Illinois. For the retailer, selling a ticket worth more than a billion dollars comes with a nice bonus of its own. Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh will receive a $500,000 cash bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.

The lucky player matched all six winning numbers: 4, 26, 66, 67 and 69, plus Powerball number 9, to claim the massive top prize. Just like that, a regular lottery ticket turned into a fortune worth $1.04 billion.

According to the lottery company, this is the largest Powerball prize won so far this year and the eighth-largest jackpot in the game's history. For the winner, those six numbers are now worth an incredible amount of money and could completely change their life.

"This is an exciting day for Illinois," said Harold Mays, director of the Illinois Lottery. "We're thrilled for the winner and the retailer that sold the winning ticket. Beyond celebrating this incredible win, every Powerball ticket purchased during this jackpot run also helped generate funding for Illinois public schools, demonstrating how the Lottery continues to benefit communities across the state."

Meanwhile, lottery players have another major jackpot to watch this weekend. Mega Millions® is set for tonight, Friday, Aug. 28, with the jackpot currently sitting at $145 million. The cash option is around $61 million.
