A court in Costa Rica has closed the investigation into the death of U.S. citizen and adult film actress Natalia Rae, who was found dead in September 2025, authorities said.

The Criminal Court of Pavas Canton, in San José province, approved the closure of the case after prosecutors determined there was no evidence of a homicide or any criminal act.

According to authorities, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested the case be closed in March. Rae, 33, whose legal last name was Kowalchuk, was from Arizona.

Investigators concluded that Rae’s death was accidental based on findings in the forensic medical report. Authorities said she died Sept. 2, 2025, after suffering a blow to her left leg and consuming psychotropic substances.

Officials said the forensic analysis was conclusive and allowed investigators to rule out homicide. Following standard procedures, prosecutors requested that the investigation be formally closed.

Rae was an adult model and AVN/CAM star known for her work on MyFreeCams. Originally from Arizona and living in Texas, she was vacationing in Costa Rica at the time of her death.

According to a report from Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ), the case began in Sept. 2025, when Rae’s roommate called 911 after finding her unconscious inside their apartment in a high-rise building in the Sabana district of San José.

Costa Rican Red Cross rescue crews responded to the scene and found Rae unresponsive, in cardiac arrest and not breathing. She was pronounced dead at the scene before emergency personnel could provide medical assistance.

Authorities said additional details related to the case have not been released. Only Rae’s family members are authorized to request further information.

The U.S. Embassy provides assistance and guidance to families of American citizens who die abroad, whether relatives were traveling with the deceased or residing in the country.

“The Consular Section can provide information on funeral homes that arrange local burials or prepare remains for shipment to the United States,” the embassy states on its website. “The Consular Section also issues a Consular Report of Death Abroad, which serves as a U.S. death certificate for legal purposes.”

The embassy also noted that it does not cover funeral, repatriation or burial expenses for Americans who die overseas. However, family members are not required to travel to Costa Rica to handle arrangements, as embassy officials can coordinate with local authorities and service providers on their behalf.
