In
total, more than 1,000 people were
transported to hospitals, and 52
fatalities were reported. As part of its annual
“Safe Holiday Vacations” campaign,
the Red Cross deployed resources
to high-traffic tourist
destinations, including beaches,
rivers and mountainous regions.
Base camps operated 24 hours a day and
were staffed by rescuers, paramedics
and trained volunteers. The
nationwide operation included
approximately 500 personnel, supported
by 120 emergency and rescue vehicles,
200 roadside assistance stations, 130
beach lifeguard bases and 200 mobile
units.
Officials
urged travelers to take basic precautions
to reduce the risk of accidents.
Recommended safety measures include using
proper equipment for activities such as
surfing, swimming and trekking, and
swimming only at beaches with lifeguards
and within designated safe zones to avoid
rip currents.
