The final round of
the 2026 FIFA Soccer World Cup
qualifiers ended Tuesday with Costa Rica
and Honduras playing to a scoreless draw
in Group C at the National Stadium in San José.
The Confederation
of North, Central America and Caribbean
Association Football (Concacaf) said
Costa Rica’s Warren Madrigal
came close in the 20th minute, but his right-footed shot
from outside the box was stopped by
Honduras goalkeeper Edrick Menjívar.
Honduras had its
best chance of the first half in
stoppage time, when Andy Najar sent a
low shot toward the bottom-left corner
in the 45+2 minute, only for Costa Rica
goalkeeper Keylor Navas to make the
save.
Both goalkeepers proved decisive in securing the 0–0 result. Navas finished with two saves, while Menjívar recorded five, according to Concacaf. The draw eliminated both Costa Rica and Honduras from World Cup contention. Honduras placed second in Group C with nine points and a 2-3-1 record. Costa Rica finished third with seven points and a 1-4-1 record. Recently, the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team defeated Costa Rica 4–3 in a quarterfinal match at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, the international men's soccer championship contested by national teams that are members of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The tournament will be held across 16 cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico, marking the first time three nations will jointly host the event.
