Costa Rica opened the second edition of the Costa Rica Trade & Investment Summit on Wednesday, bringing together local companies and international buyers seeking products and services made and provided in Costa Rica, the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency of Costa Rica, known as PROCOMER, announced.

The Costa Rica Convention Center in Heredia province is hosting the summit this week, with delegations from more than 40 countries expected to participate in more than 3,600 tailored business meetings with 1,000 exporters, multinational companies and suppliers operating in Costa Rica, according to PROCOMER.

“Costa Rica offers specialized talent, strong productive capabilities, access to global markets, and a supplier network equipped to meet the needs of international buyers and investors,” said Laura López, CEO of PROCOMER. “The country has also demonstrated its ability to support complex, high-value operations.”

The summit aims to increase exports and attract new investment to Costa Rica, López said.

Among the featured speakers and business leaders participating in the summit are Chris Knight, managing director of FT Locations, part of the Financial Times Group in the United States; Elena Gallego, director of Invest in Andalucía in Spain; and Jairo Londoño, country manager of Microsoft Costa Rica.

The conference offers business opportunities across a wide range of industries, including agribusiness, food, manufacturing, digital technologies, corporate services, creative industries, services, tourism, infrastructure and semiconductors.

The business meetings allow participants to discuss technical requirements, production capacity, commercial terms and sourcing opportunities directly with potential partners.

According to authorities, services account for 34% of Costa Rica’s export offering, followed by medical devices at 31% and the agricultural sector at 11%.

Beyond the summit meetings, participants will take part in visits to agricultural operations in northern Costa Rica and the Caribbean region, ornamental plant companies in the western Central Valley, and advanced manufacturing companies located in free trade zones and business parks.

Through site visits and business tours, buyers and investors will be able to observe operations firsthand, meet directly with company teams and gain a deeper understanding of the capabilities available throughout Costa Rica.

Officials said the visits are intended to give decision-makers firsthand information about the country’s productive environment and help support future commercial and investment decisions.

Costa Rica’s exports increased 7% during the first half of 2026, reaching a record of more than $11.7 billion, according to figures released by the Ministry of Foreign Trade, known as COMEX.

The total represents an increase of $772 million compared with the same period in 2025.

Costa Rica also ranks No. 1 in Latin America for foreign direct investment performance in the 2026 Greenfield FDI Performance Index, published by fDi Intelligence, a division of the Financial Times.

The index measures how effectively countries attract foreign direct investment relative to the size of their economies. Costa Rica was the top-performing country in Latin America and the only country in the region to rank among the global top 20.

PROCOMER is a state-owned agency that oversees export promotion programs, attracts foreign direct investment and provides technical and financial support to exporters.

COMEX is the government agency responsible for overseeing Costa Rica’s foreign trade and investment strategy.
