Representatives from the Tourism Institute (ICT) participated in the ABAV International Tourism Expo, one of South America’s leading travel industry events, held at Arena BRB Mané Garrincha in Brasília, Brazil.

The institute aimed to attract more Brazilian travelers by promoting Costa Rica’s natural beauty, wellness experiences, and commitment to sustainable tourism.

According to ICT data, Brazil remains one of Costa Rica’s top source markets for visitors from South America. Between January and August, more than 16,000 Brazilian tourists entered the country by air.

Tourism officials described the ABAV Expo as Brazil’s premier tourism trade fair, known for its scale and influence. The event brings together travel agents, tour operators, destination marketers, and hospitality professionals from around the world.

Organizers said the expo serves as a dynamic platform to showcase the latest innovations, trends, and opportunities in the tourism sector. “By facilitating meaningful networking and business interactions, it drives progress across the industry and fosters valuable partnerships,” the organizers said in a statement. “The expo is dedicated to reshaping the landscape of modern tourism, offering attendees new insights and fresh approaches to travel and hospitality.”

This year’s event drew between 20,000 and 50,000 visitors and featured more than 500 exhibitors from various countries, underscoring its role as a major networking hub and industry showcase.

Costa Rica’s participation in the ABAV Expo followed its recent appearance at IMEX America, a trade show for meetings, incentives, conferences, events, and business travel, held in the United States.

Tourism remains one of Costa Rica’s strongest industries. More than 2.2 million travelers arrived in Costa Rica by air between January and September, according to ICT.

In 2024, the country welcomed over 2.6 million international air arrivals, a 7% increase from the previous year.

The sector also generated more than $5.4 billion in foreign exchange earnings in 2024.

The ICT is the government agency in charge of promoting the country’s tourism industry.
