Costa Rican authorities, working with Interpol, arrested a 63-year-old Russian man identified by the last name Larguine, who is wanted by the United States.

According to the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ), the U.S. Department of Justice issued an international arrest warrant for Larguine in connection with charges of illegally exporting products to the United States.

Larguine was taken into custody at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Juan Santamaría International Airport, in Alajuela Province, after arriving on a flight from Mexico. The arrest followed a Red Notice issued for his immediate detention.

He is currently being held at the Immigration Apprehension Center in San José while awaiting the completion of the extradition process to the United States.

Authorities have not released further details about the investigation, citing confidentiality. Only family members are authorized to request additional information.

The OIJ is urging the public to report any suspicions of individuals hiding in Costa Rica under a Red Notice. Tips can be submitted confidentially by calling the 10-digit hotline at 800-8000-645 or the fast line at 11-76, where bilingual agents assist in English and Spanish.

This case is one of many involving foreign nationals arrested in Costa Rica due to international Red Notices. Recently, authorities deported a Czech woman, identified by the surname Jakubcova, who was wanted in the Czech Republic on charges related to the illicit production of narcotics, psychotropic substances and poisons.

The Judicial Investigation Organization, part of Costa Rica’s Supreme Court of Justice, conducts criminal investigations nationwide and holds police authority across the country.
