Two of the five archaeological stone spheres, located in Palmar Sur de Osa in the southern zone of the country, are under conservation and restoration this month.

The
archaeological spheres objects are the result or product of human activities in the past may have originated in the ancient time.

According to the National Museum, the institution in charge of the restoration work of these historical pieces, the professional preservation methods are used to protect the stones that are kept at the El Silencio archaeological site.

In that area of Osa, there are two historical settlements of the first settlers in the region. The two areas, Finca 6 and El Silencio, are part of the settlements of native caciques. Conforming the area known as Piedra del Diquís, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2014 by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.

Archaeologists report a record of the Diquís area that started from 2017-2018. The records include data such as rock characteristics, especially anthropological symbols found on the stones.

These are the spheres that archaeologists declare to be part of the only two stone sphere alignments at the site. These monuments have between 1.75 and 1.58 meters in diameter, respectively.

Investigations carried out by the museum's Anthropology Department have determined that the stone spheres date back more than 1,000 years.

According to the history of Costa Rica, the time before the arrival of the Spanish to the American continent shows that there was evidence of the arrival of the first human beings in the country between 10,000 and 7,000 B.C.
