U.S. citizen reported missing in
GuanacasteBy the A.M. Costa Rica staff Agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization, are seeking help from the public to finding a U.S. citizen, born in Costa Rica, named Christian Tijerino López, 33. According to the agents, Tijerino came to Costa Rica in December to visit relatives. He was last seen on Friday, near Liberia, in Guanacaste Province, when he left his hotel driving his vehicle. Saturday the car was found in Bagaces in Guanaste. However, there are no traces of Tijerino. The agents say those with information can call the 800-8000645 line and can do so can be anonymously, about the possible whereabouts of Tijerino. A.M. Costa Rica urges readers to share this missing person case with their contacts. Red Cross statistics show that 139 cases of people lost in the mountains were reported in 2018. Also, from January to October 2019, 118 cases of missing persons have already been reported. ![]() In December 2019, park rangers and searchers of the Red Cross, found the U.S. citizen surnamed Young, who had lost his way in the forest of Rincón de la Vieja National Park in Guanacaste. According to the Red Cross report, an emergency call was received about a man who was touring the park's trails. "He supposedly entered the park together with another group of tourists. However, in the afternoon, the group realized that Young was lost." Both park rangers and Red Cross rescuers carried the search operation, however, "due to bad weather conditions, the rescue operation continued until the next day," said the Red Cross. Young was found next morning near a river branch within the wooded area of the park. According to the Red Cross, the man was contacted by paramedics, and he was in good health conditions after spending the night in the forest. "He said he was walking on the trails and did not realize when he was lost. He refused medical attention and did not want to be carried to any hospital." Due to the cases of tourists getting lost in the wild areas, the National System of Conservation Areas and the Tourism Institute called on travelers to conduct tourism responsibly. According to the authorities, the entry and stay of people in unauthorized areas within the national parks and along paths within the forest represent a high danger and risk due to the possible attack of animals.
