Swiss citizen
arrested for fraud case
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
The Migration
Police, in a joint effort with Interpol, carried out a
house seizure belonging to a 58-year-old Swiss citizen
named Heinz-Augsburguer. He is accused of fraud in his
country, said the General Directorate of Migration on
Wednesday.
According to the police report, Heinz-Augsburguer had
his home in San Cristobal North District,
in San José Province, where he was arrested.
Heinz-Augsburguer is accused of fraud in his country,
identity theft and use of a false ID document in Costa
Rica, authorities said.
Heinz-Augsburguer had entered Costa Rica in 2014 using
a false ID claiming to be a Polish citizen with the
name of Grzegorz Bugaj, reported the General
Directorate of Migration.
According to the investigation, he used the false ID
to carry out several procedures in the country.
Authorities do not explain what type of due diligence
was made by the foreigner in the country using the
false ID.
The investigation into Heinz-Augsburguer began in 2019
by the Investigative Unit of the Professional
Migration Police, the Prosecutor's Office of Alajuela
and Interpol.
The man was taken to the cells of the Public Ministry
where he was interrogated by the judicial agents and
must wait until a judge orders three-months jail as
pre-trial measures against him to return him to
Switzerland.
