Companies request the
benefit of
electric service payments suspension
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
Companies have requested for the benefit to suspend
the collection of electric service for three months,
due to the crisis caused by the covid-19. As of
Monday, 1,167 companies requested this benefit,
reported the Costa Rican Electricity Institute.
The benefit covers billing for March, April and May.
It is aimed at about 12,000 customers with monthly
consumption of more than 2,000 kilowatt-hours, the
institute said in its statement.
"We have offered this arrangement aware of the
situation facing the country, without neglecting our
financial health," said José Pablo Arguedas,
representative of the institute.
According to the institute, all its clients can
request the benefit of a payment arrangement to avoid
the suspension of electric service. The procedure must
be carried out exclusively on the institute’s website.
The institute covers 75% of the electricity service in
the country.
In March, the institute announced another benefit for
companies to pay 50% of the cost of electric service
during the months of March, April and May.
The collection of the remaining 50% should be canceled
from July to December, said the institute in its
statement.
