of covid-19 infections in
Costa Rica are related to a travel By the
A.M. Costa Rica staff
The Minister of Health Daniel Salas released a report about links causing the majority of covid-19 infections in Costa Rica. Travel is the most common factor in 30.4% of infected patients, according to studies by the Ministry of Health. Those are the so-called imported virus cases. Although travel is the most common factor, work is the second factor. According to the report 24.5% of infections originated from work ties and 20.3% from the family circle. "It is important to reinforce preventive measures in work and family spaces where it is more common for infections of those who live with the infected patient to replicate, in addition to continuing to avoid social spaces," said Salas. In addition, 13.3% of cases were caused by meetings with people who did not belong to the same family. And 3.5% are classified as cases of contagion by out-of-control circumstances, such as prisoners who are in jails. However, authorities report that 8% of cases have not yet established the origin of the contagion, known as the epidemiological link. Authorities report a single case, where the virus has not evolved as it has happened with the other patients. This is a person who was diagnosed with covid-19 on March 27. This person was outside the country, so it is presumed that when he entered Costa Rica he was already infected. After completing the isolation process, this person was diagnosed as negative with covid-19. This meant that he had already overcome the illness. A second confirmation test done 24 hours later resulted negative, again confirming that the person had already overcome the illness. Despite the medical results, the patient continued to show symptoms of covid -19 such as loss of smell, loss of taste and fever. So a third medical test was performed, which resulted in positive. That is, the patient continued to be infected with the virus even after the 14-day quarantine period. According to Salas, this atypical case is being studied and monitored in a medical center. The authorities confirm that the covid-19 medical examination is mandatory at all the country's border ports of entry. Social Security said in their statement that 6,729 medical tests have been carried out at airports, airplanes, ships, and points of entry into border areas. The medical diagnostic tests are also being carried out in places of high social risk, such as supermarkets, BNBs, salons, churches, local clinics, among others. Of the total of 2,344 tests, 3 have been positive. On Tuesday, authorities reported that since March they have carried out 23,703 medical covid-19 tests, where 956 resulted positive. According to the statistics provided by Social Security, in a period of more than a month, from April 17 to May 22, there have been 2,022 tests carried out at the Juan Santamaría, Tobías Bolaños and Liberia airports. As for the passengers, of 1,842 medical tests 29 were positive. As for the border posts at Tablillas, Los Chiles, Peñas Blancas, Sixaola and Paso Canoas there have been 2,458 diagnostics carried out, of which 63 were positive. Regarding the tests carried out in the maritime ports, 85 tests were applied to the Costa Ricans who arrived in the Seven Seas Navigator and Rhapsody of the Seas cruise lines. All results were negative. --------------------- Should the authorities carry out a national campaign to apply the covid-19's diagnostic tests? We would like to know your thoughts on this story.
