Road camera installations begin
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
The Road Safety Council has sought bids internationally for a smart camera system for more road control.
According to the council, the purchase will allow the creation of the Intelligent Transport System for the Technological Management of a Safe and Efficient Mobility, known as SICOM, through which real-time data will be generated that will allow the detection in real-time of infractions such as disrespect of red light, speeding, faulty parking, among others.
The ministry is currently in the process of analyzing five offers presented by companies seeking to win the job.
In March 2019, the ministry announced the project for the purchase of cameras valued at $30 million, which will be financed with the institution budget.
According to the ministry, high-tech cameras could capture numbers of license plates or more detailed characteristics of alleged offenders in real-time, then transmit the data to other units, such as the Red Cross or Traffic Police, to make a quick intervention.
"They are a series of technological devices that we will place in the city," said Eduardo Brenes, of the ministry. "There are 80 control points and whose goal is to detect license plate numbers, cars badly parked, speeders, among other faults. This to prevent possible accidents ”.
