Costa Rica has received 3,771,675 vaccines against covid-19, according to the National Emergency Commission.

The most recent shipment with 163,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines arrived on a DHL cargo today at 5 a.m. at the Juan Santamaría International Airport. This delivery is part of the purchased 1,092,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses for the treatment of more than 500,000 people.

Authorities also expect 319,410 Pfizer vaccines to arrive tonight. With this new shipment, the country will have imported more than four million imported doses.

So far, the country has imported 2,596,425 doses as part of the 6,000,425 Pfizer vaccines purchased to inoculate more than 3 million people.

An additional 172,950 doses have been imported as part of the purchased 2,038,300 vaccines through the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access, COVAX system, of the World Health Organization. The purchase includes WHO-approved vaccines, such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna. This purchase was made to provide treatment to more than one million people.

The total vaccines purchased are about 9,130,725 doses to ensure treatment for more than 4.5 million people. And now, the country counts with 503,100 doses donated by the U.S. government to reach a total of  9,633,825 to protect more than 4.8 million people living in Costa Rica.

As of Tuesday, there have been 3,193,895 vaccines against covid-19 applied in the country, reaching a national vaccination rate of 61.9 per 100 inhabitants, according to the Vaccine National Information System report.

By the end of this year, the government's goal is to have vaccinated at least 4 million people in order to keep the rate of infection down and achieve herd immunity.

Yesterday, President Carlos Alvarado announced a plan to vaccinate everyone living in Costa Rica, including undocumented people.

There are 71,865 active covid-19 cases in the country. Of the total 403,511 cases detected since last year, there were 4,997 deaths listed as covid-19 related, approximately 1.2% death rate in Costa Rica, reported the Health Ministry on Tuesday.
