For the second time, medical device companies in Costa Rica are participating in the Medical Design & Manufacturing West 2020, which is taking place this week in Anaheim, California.
According to the Costa Rican Development Initiatives Coalition, this fair is one of the largest expo in the manufacturing sector with at least 20,000 representatives of the world's leading medical device manufacturing companies.
ATL Technology, Automatización Avanzada S.A., Microtechnologies, Precision and Medical Components and Precision Concepts are the companies that are displayed at the Costa Rican stand.
These companies offer products and services such as manufacturing of medical device components, plastic injection, plasma-based technologies, precision engineering, robotics, among others.
During the fair, executives of visiting medical device firms will be invited to medical companies to install facilities in Costa Rica in industrial zones such as Coyol Free Zone in Alajuela and La Lima Free Zone in Cartago.
According to Pedro Beirute, general manager of Costa Rica's Export Promotion Agency, the medical sector is one of the main exporters of goods. In 2019, it exported $3.6 billion, 12% more than in 2018.
"Therefore, this fair is a good strategy, since it brings together thousands of professionals from that industry and allows us to continue promoting this sector, promoting the productive capacities of national companies and positioning the country as a competitive business partner with high added value,” said Beirute.
This is the second fair in the U.S. where Costa Rican companies are in the search of international customers.

This week Costa Rican design and technology companies are presenting at KidScreen Summit 2020, which is taking place in Miami, Florida.
The companies present at the summit are Herald Entertainment, Shout Studio, LasalaPost, Sueter Studio, Attic Studio and Creative Tropics. The goal is promoting the creation of content for children, 3D and 2D digital animation, visual effects among others.
According to the agency, more than 2,000 delegations from 50 countries, more than 400 buyers of content aimed at children and more than 900 producers and distributors are present at this event.
"Participating in KidScreen Summit is one of the tools we have to generate more business for national animation studios and developers," said Beirute.
According to the agency, this fair is a benchmark in the generation of business for the sector.
Among the positive results that Costa Rican companies have achieved are the cases of the Marte Estudio company that participated in the development of the Lego City and the recent acquisition of Rocket Cartoons by the Canadian firm Relish.
