- Published: Wednesday, February 12, 2020 - at KidScreen Summit By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Costa Rica's Export Promotion Agency, known as PROCOMER, announced Tuesday that six Costa Rican design and technology companies are presenting at KidScreen Summit 2020, which is taking place this week in Miami, Florida. The companies present at the summit are Herald Entertainment, Shout Studio, LasalaPost, Sueter Studio, Attic Studio and Creative Tropics. The goal is promoting the creation of content for children, 3D and 2D digital animation, visual effects among others. According to the organization, more than 2,000 delegations from 50 countries, more than 400 buyers of content aimed at children and more than 900 producers and distributors are present at this event. "Participating in KidScreen Summit is one of the tools we have to generate more business for national animation studios and developers," said Pedro Beirute Prada, PROCOMER manager. According to the agency, this fair is a benchmark in the generation of business for the sector. Among the positive results that Costa Rican companies have achieved are the cases of the Marte Estudio company that participated in the development of the Lego City and the recent acquisition of Rocket Cartoons by the Canadian firm Relish. ![]() Monday, the Toronto-based digital content studio Relish Interactive, Inc., announced that it is acquiring Costa Rica-based Rocket Cartoons, effective immediately. Relish, well known for its app store hit Weirdwood Manor, sees this acquisition as a way to grow its in-house animation team and bolster its ability to create one of a kind multi-platform digital experiences, the firm said. Rocket Cartoons is an independent animation studio and the first original content studio in Costa Rica. Known for its high-quality short-form work such as “Kip Van Creepy” (DreamWorks TV) and “Terror in Doomsville” (Cartoon Network). The firm has seen its creations sold into more than 40 territories worldwide. Relish CEO Paul Pattison and Rocket CCO Leo Trinidad first met at the Kidscreen Summit in February 2018, and the relationship took off from there, the announcement said. The amount of the acquisition of the Costa Rican company was not disclosed by the firm. According to PROCOMER, the Digital animations produced in Costa Rica and exported increased in 2019. This is because 42% of companies engaged in this activity export their services. Also, 40% of total revenue comes from international clients. The U.S., Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom. are the main markets for the sale of digital animation services. According to the organization, the global digital animation market was valued in 2018 at $270 billion and an average growth of 4% is projected through 2022. The main products are video streaming, visual effects in the film industry and greater access to content by children. ------------------------- How could Costa Rican technology companies make themselves more attractive to foreign investors?
