GSK launches its Finance Hub
for the Americas in Costa Rica

By the A.M. Costa  Rica staff

In May, more than 600 employees came together online to celebrate the virtual launch of the GlaxoSmithKline, GSK, Finance Hub Americas, based in Costa Rica. This pharmaceutical center joins others established in Poland and Malaysia within the past year.

According to the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency, CINDE, Costa Rica has progressed from an initial 60 people doing work for Central America into a Regional Hub to support GSK markets across the Americas. This shows the great potential for the country and local talent.

The British multinational pharmaceutical, GSK Finance Hub Americas delivers value-added finance activities including close and control, planning and forecasting, tax, order to cash, purchase to pay, accounting for manufacturing facilities, Competency Center (integral SAP specialists), risk management, and transformation.

The event featured GSK CFO, Iain Mackay, and his leadership team. “I want to thank and congratulate all employees, I’m really proud to see all what we have accomplished to this point and encourage you to go even higher,” said Mackay during the event. He also reminded the teams of the efforts in the past years to make this happen in order to standardize into a Global Model with a single instance SAP platform.

The Finance Leadership team was able to hear from inspiring and engaging stories from their colleagues representing all areas, from people who had to relocate from other countries to others who changed their career path to becoming part of the new Finance Hub family.

The event closed with a video from the First Lady Claudia Dobles and Dyalá Jiménez, Minister of Foreign Trade emphasizing the partnership the country has with GSK and how Costa Rica’s Government has been supporting companies. There was also a distinction for the great work GSK has done in deploying the Women’s initiative program which portrays the importance of diversity in the workforce.

GSK began its Business Service Center (BSC) operations in Costa Rica in 2013.
