Father's Day is coming up on Sunday. Though there is no need for a set date to honor an exceptional human being who is a parent, both children and fathers usually look forward to doing activities together. These alternatives are tailored specifically for fathers, so give them a go!
On
Saturday
The Albuquerque Youth
Orchestra will perform at the National
Theater in downtown San José. The
orchestra is an advanced,
full-symphonic ensemble of 28
skilled musicians from Albuquerque,
New Mexico, USA. The event will be directed by Dan Whisler, who has led
orchestras in the United States,
England and Spain, among other
countries. The show begins at 7 p.m.
The play is free, and tickets are
available at the theater's box
office. The opera singer Joaquin Yglesias
presents the "Italia" performance,
which has a repertoire of opera
music created by Europe's most
renowned composers. The concert
begins at 8 p.m. at the Melico Salazar
Theater in downtown San José. Tickets are priced
between $30 and $50 and are
available through the Eticket
website. The Heredia Symphony Orchestra
will perform at the Eugene O'Neill
Theater in San José. The event features
musical compositions by notable
composers such as Bohuslav Martinu
and Dmitry Shostakovich, among
others. The presentation begins at 7
p.m. Tickets cost $8 and are
available on the theater's
website. Terraza 77 Restaurant at Manuel Antonio Beach,
Puntarenas, is offering a special Father's Day
catch-of-the-day dinner menu for
$30, which includes Mahi Mahi, Tuna or Salmon,
ceviche and wine. The special menu tables are available at 5
p.m. The Rolling Thunder
Saloon at Jaco Beach, Puntarenas, is offering a Father's Day special that
includes a grilled main meal, wine,
and whiskey 2x1 all day. The program
includes a live music performance
beginning at noon. Los Sueños Marriott
Ocean & Golf Resort in
Herradura Beach, Puntarenas offers the "Surf n' Turf Father's
Day Special, " which includes a
grilled steak filet menu, with mashed potatoes, sautéed
asparagus and Mediterranean
lobster in garlic butter. There is
also a 2x1 beer offer. The price is
$75 per guest. The tables open at
noon.
On Saturday and Sunday
The Parkour Competition will be held in the City Mall shopping center in Alajuela. The tournament features Central American athletes (known as traceurs) aiming to get from one location to another as quickly and efficiently as possible, without the use of any aiding equipment and frequently while doing acrobatic feats. The show begins at 8:30 a.m. Entrance is free.
The
Guanacaste Municipal Band will perform
a concert celebrating Father's Day.
The program starts at 5 p.m. at Liberia Canton
Central Park.
The performance is free and
pet-friendly.
The
musical play "Costa Rica le Baila al Mundo"
(English: "Costa Rica Dances to the
World") is being
presented
at the Melico Salazar
Theater
in downtown San José. The musical
features the Grupo Tiquicia Orchestra
and choreographed performances by many
dance clubs. The performance begins at
5 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and are
available at the theater's box office.
The Wyndham Hotel
in Heredia
offers the Father's Day Special, which
includes "day pass tickets" for two
adults and two children, buffet
breakfast, snacks, and beverages for
$135 plus taxes.
The Marriott
Hacienda Belen
in Heredia is
offering
a special Father's Day buffet lunch
for $60 that
includes
unlimited Pilsen beer for all dads, a
surprise present for dads, and live
music.

Park Inn by Radisson Hotel in San Jose offers a Father's Day Buffet Breakfast that includes all-you-can-eat for $30. Tables open at 6 a.m.
This
weekend
The play "Un pajarito me lo contó," meaning "A small bird told me" in English, is being performed in the National Cultural Center's 1887 Theater in downtown San José. The show features the Yunta Scenic Art Theater Company and explores events in the lives of the main characters, including how they influenced their paths. On Friday and Saturday, play begins at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the performance begins at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $8 and are available at the theater box office.
The Cocos Island
Dome Exhibition will be held in the Antigua Aduana
Events Center in downtown San
José. The event offers the
public a 3D experience deep in the Cocos
Island oceans. On Friday, the show
begins at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday and
Sunday, the program starts at 9 a.m. Free
admission.
The Expressivo
Theater in Momentum
Shopping Center in Curridabat San José
will be showing the comedy play
"One More Week." On Friday and Sunday,
the performance begins at 8 p.m. On
Sunday, it begins at 6 p.m. Tickets
for $20 are available at the theater box
office.
Libertad Park Club in Desamparados in San José presents activities for teenagers such as painting, dance, music, sports and arts. The activities start at 9 a.m.
Children's Museum in downtown San José features special activities for kids. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Tickets $3 are available on the museum's website.
Tours are
available at the
Wildlife Rescue Center in
Barrio San José District in Alajuela.
The animal sanctuary and wildlife
conservation center tours include
botanical gardens and more than 125
species of rescued animals including
sloths, monkeys, jaguars, tapir,
birds, and reptiles. They cannot be
released back to their natural
habitat. Tickets are $30 or $15 per
child available on the
center's website.
Tours are available at Kids Saving the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary in Quepos Beach, Puntarenas. The non-profit organization is home to nearly 50 animals that cannot be released back into the wild. Ticket is $10. Make reservations by calling 8827-8243 or emailing Chip@kstr.org.
Experience
the arrival of sea turtles at Ostional
National Park in Guanacaste, beginning
at 6:30 a.m. with an expert guide
from the
Ostional Tourist Guides Association. Tour

Games for
children, playgrounds and pools are

Pirata Beach Club in
Puntarenas City, Puntarenas. Doors

Free swimming, Zumba, aerobics, sports games, fitness and diving are among many other courses at Ojo de Agua Water Park in San Antonio Belen, Heredia. The club includes a parking area, restaurant, several swimming pools for adults and a swimming pool area for children, a playground, tennis areas, basketball areas and a soccer field. The place opens at 7:30 a.m. Ticket is $3.
Kalambu
Hot Springs Water Park in
La Fortuna, Alajuela, offers more than
10 aquatic activities and hot spring
pools. The park opens at 10 a.m.
Tickets are $8 or $13 including lunch.
Free for children under 4 years old. Go ride
hopping at the Parque
de Diversiones in
La Uruca, San José. The amusement park
has more than 17 rides such as roller
coasters, carousels, twists and bumper
cars among many others. Enjoy their
food court zone and picnic area. The

Forest Station in Guanacaste. Tickets

Museum in
Palmar Sur, Osa, Puntarenas, offers
walking tours through the
archaeological zone known as Finca
Sitio 6. Tours are from 8 a.m. to 2

The Art
Museum in
downtown La Sabana, San José, presents
private collections of Latin American
artists. The museum is open from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m.
Gold Museum in downtown San José presents an exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. Also, in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $15.
