The Massachusetts headquartered medical devices producer corporation, Boston Scientific, announced the opening of jobs in their new manufacturing plant located in La Lima Business Park in Cartago Province.

They have opened about 1,200 job vacancies in several functional areas including manufacturing and administrative roles. People interested in applying for a job should visit the firm Career's site.

“We are grateful to our employees in the region who have continued to deliver life-changing technologies to our customers and their patients,” said Paudie O’Connor, senior vice president of Global Supply Chain, at Boston Scientific. “As we expand our Costa Rican operations into Cartago, we will continue to develop our talent and capabilities.”

The new facility of approximately 40,000 sq. meters is scheduled to be completed in 2025.

The company already employs more than 7,000 employees in its other facilities located in El Coyol Trade Zone in Alajuela Province and La Aurora Trade Zone in Heredia Province.

Even though new businesses are creating jobs, unemployment remains at 9.6%, according to the National Employment Survey.

Data recorded from May to July 2023 shows more than 225,000 people without registered jobs. Of these, 113,000 are men, making up 51% of the unemployed people in the country.

Boston Scientific is one of many U.S. firms investing in Costa Rica.  Recently, Intel Corporation, headquartered in California, announced a massive investment of $1.2 billion to expand its operations located in Heredia Province.
