The Sandpoint Police Department in Idaho, USA, announced the arrest of a 40-year-old U.S. citizen named Laurel Hannah in Costa Rica.

Early this week, the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) issued an alert about a missing woman and her 20-month-old son.

According to the report, the last known sighting of Hannah and her son in Costa Rica was near the border with Panama, specifically in the Sixaola District in Talamanca Canton, Limón Province.

According to Sandpoint police, Hannah has been accused of taking her son from his custodial parent around Aug. 12.

OIJ and Interpol agents found her in Costa Rica and took her into custody. The child has since been reunited with his custodial parent.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the U.S. State Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the International Police (Interpol), Sandpoint Marshals and the U.S. Office of International Affairs.

A similar case happened recently when a U.S. citizen surnamed Strong (37) was convicted of kidnapping his son and taking him to Costa Rica in violation of a parenting plan.
