Tica Surfer Eliminated from WSL Competition

Brisa Hennessy, a Tica surfer from Matapalo Beach on the Osa Peninsula, was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Surf City El Salvador Pro, as part of the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour.


According to the Costa Rican Surf Federation, Hennessy was knocked out in the first round on Friday morning, scoring 10.26 points in Heat 5
. Australia’s Molly Picklum advanced to the semifinals with a score of 12.34.


As a result, Hennessy finishes in 12th place in the competition standings.


She will continue her run on the World Surf Tour, with her next event set for the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach in Victoria, Australia,
taking place April 18–28, 2025.







Hennessy’s parents are U.S. citizens; her mother, Katherine Malia Kobara, is from Hawaii, and her father, Michael James Hennessy, is from California.



The WSL Championship Tour features international stops in Hawaii, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, El Salvador, Australia, the United States, Brazil, South Africa, French Polynesia, and Fiji. The 2025 World Surf Tour runs from January 27 to September 4.



Hennessy represented Costa Rica at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she was eliminated in the women’s bronze medal surfing finals.



In other recent sporting competitions, Costa Rican adaptive athlete Amalia Ortuño took first place at the Wodapalooza Adaptive CrossFit Games held in Miami Beach, FL, U.S.A.
