The Cartago Township Orchestra is throwing down a folk music concert at the San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish in Taras Canton. The show starts at 6 p.m. and is totally free.  









On Friday and Saturday



Puerto Viejo Canton in Limon province is bringing the energy this weekend with the Wolaba Parade, which celebrates Afro-Costa Rican culture with a lively parade starting at noon from Central Park. Expect live music, dancing, Caribbean food and drinks, and a fun kids’ play area. It’s totally free. and the perfect mix of tradition and good vibes.




On Saturday





Catch the Glorious B*stards Rock Band at La Pista Classics Center in San José. They’ll play rock covers from bands like Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, and AC/DC, among others. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the venue's box office.












On Saturday and Sunday







San José is bringing the heat this weekend. The Afro Essences Festival takes over the Cultural Center in Montes de Oca, San José, celebrating Afro-descendant roots with two full days of live music, calypso, poetry, and dance. Plus, don’t sleep on the Afro-Caribbean food, the business fair, and tons of art. Doors open at 10 a.m. both days, and it’s all free.




San José is hosting Expopyme at the National Stadium, and it’s a shopper’s paradise! Over 100 stalls will have everything from jewelry, souvenirs, and plants to apparel, furniture, food trucks, live music and shows. It’s totally free. Doors open at 10 a.m.Come early, explore, and snag some unique finds.




The Melico Salazar Theater in San José hosts the Intercollegiate Folkloric Dance Festival, bringing together student dance crews from all over the country. Experience talent, passion, and cultural flair on full display. Shows start at 5 p.m. both days. Grab your tickets at the box office.








This Weekend





The Eugene O'Neill Theater, in San José, is staging "In Search of Lost Time," a play inspired by Marcel Proust’s legendary seven-volume novel. Performed entirely in English, it follows one man’s reflections on childhood, love, and high-society life in 19th–20th century France. Showtimes: Friday & Saturday at 7 p.m., Sunday at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office or online.





The National Symphony Orchestra hits the stage at the National Theater in San José with Scheherazade, inspired by Rimsky-Korsakov’s epic symphonic suite based on One Thousand and One Nights. Showtimes: Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 5 p.m., Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are up for grabs at the box office or online.





Cultural Fair in San Ramón canton in Alajuela is hosted by the local municipality. Think live concerts, dance shows, food galore, local goods, bingo, and even a full-on kids’ amusement park at San Ramon Central Park. The party kicks off at noon. Perfect for a family day out or just hanging with friends.




Santa Rosa Cultural Fair is bringing all the action featuring bullfights, rodeo, horse and ox parades, live concerts, dancing, traditional food, and a full kids’ play zone. It all goes down every day, starting at noon in Santa Rosa District Central Park in Pococi canton, Limon province.




Cultural Fair in Turrialba at Quesada Casal Central Park in Cartago. Expect carousels, rides, food trucks, live music, concerts, cultural shows, and even sports activities. The fair kicks off daily at noon, perfect for families, friends, and anyone looking for a good time.









The Vargas Calvo Theater in San José,  is turning up the drama with The Desire ("El Deseo") inspired by the work of playwright Víctor Hugo Rascón. It’s the bold, heartfelt story of Susan, a woman over 50 who shakes things up by starting a romance with a much younger man, and all the chaos that comes with it. Curtain goes up at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 5 p.m. on Sundays. Grab your seats at the theater box office or online through the National Theater’s site, which is backing this production. The play is 18+ adult-only content.




The Expressivo Theater brings the laughs with Addicted to You ("Adicto a vos"), a comedy about five women stuck in an airport, and all the hilarious chaos that follows. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 6 p.m. You can grab tickets at the theater box office or score them online.






Step right up to the Fuentes-Gasca Circus at the Carlos Ugalde Stadium in Ciudad Quesada, Alajuela. The dazzling show is filled with excitement and wonder. Witness incredible trapeze artists, captivating music, lively dance, talented jugglers, hilarious clowns, and magical acts. Performances are held daily at 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the circus box office. Bring the whole family for an unforgettable circus experience.  






The Moliere Theater in San José shows the comedy play "Papichulo" (Handsome Daddy). The story follows a thief who ends up in all kinds of crazy trouble while trying to rob a house full of women. Showtimes:  Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the theater box office.

Head to the Lucho Barahona Theater in San José for a hilarious comedy, the Mummy, starring comedian characters Juan Vainas and Chibolo. Inspired by a spooky Halloween tale, the play dives into the fun question: What would you do if you found a sarcophagus buried right in your backyard? Performances are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are just $15 and available at the theater box office.







Get ready for laughs at the Triciclo Theater in San José with "Suegras Bárbaras" (Crazy Mothers-in-Law). This hilarious comedy follows a couple on vacation who, thanks to an unexpected twist, find themselves having to bring their mother-in-law along for the ride. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $20 and available at the theater box office.




 






Take a thrilling journey back in time at the Children's Museum in San José with Jurassic World Experience. The 26 life-like animatronic dinosaurs in an immersive Jurassic atmosphere, complete with exciting games that let kids feel like true paleontologists. The Gold Museum in downtown San José presents an exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. Also, in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $15.




The National Museum in downtown San José, presents an exhibition of Costa Rica's history and handmade artifacts, including some more than 12,000 years old, made by the first peoples of the region. Museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ticket is $11.
