With the arrival of 110 tourists from San Juan, Puerto Rico officially began the season of charter flights between the two countries.
According to the Tourism Institute, from June to August, the Spain airline Swift Air is offering direct flights between the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Puerto Rico and the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO).
Flights will arrive at SJO on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. and will leave at 11:15 a.m. from SJO under the "back to back" modality which specifically refers to tourists staying for 8 days and 7 nights in Costa Rica and returning to their homeland the following Sunday.
According
to data provided by the Marbella
tourist agency, in charge of
coordinating flights, Puerto Rican
tourist's preferences are visiting
volcanoes, taking adventure tours and
visiting hot springs, among others.
The reactivation of charter flights between the two countries occurs after having been suspended for fifteen years, added the institute in its statement.
Swift Air is one of many airlines increasing the frequency of their flights to Costa Rica. Last week, JetBlue, the U.S. low-cost airline headquartered in Long Island, launched new flights between Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR), in Guanacaste and Los Angeles (LAX) in California, U.S.A.
By facilitating tourism, air transport helps generate more tourism and economic growth in Costa Rica. As of February, the Tourism Institute recorded more than 554,000 tourists have visited the country. That is over 216,000 more visitors than the same period in 2022.
