With an
investment of over $20 million, the
Swedish firm Trelleborg Healthcare &
Medical is breaking ground on a new
facility at Evolution
Free Zone Industrial Park, in Grecia
Canton, Alajuela Province. According to
the firm the 107,600 square feet/10,000
square meter manufacturing building is
scheduled to be completed in 2025. The decision
for the new site is driven by the
company's strategic goal of reducing
overall costs. Also, the company’s first
facility in Central America, will
facilitate supply chain continuity through
a global manufacturing and distribution
base and support key customers in
near-shoring production, they added. “We want to
provide customers with finished medical
devices, components and assemblies in one
location," said Linda Muroski, President
of Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical. "
By producing the components at a single
site and moving them to assembly under one
roof, we reduce freight costs and
management of multiple vendors for our
customers, saving them money so they can
be more competitive and profitable.” Capabilities
offered at the facility will include
liquid silicone rubber molding, dipping,
thermoplastic production, and assembly to
support key initiatives and growth plans
of customers in critical healthcare and
medical applications. It will also feature
clean-room production and be designed to
meet stringent industry-specific standards
for medical device manufacturing.
The new building will be located near the main western cities, providing access to a large workforce with outstanding technical and academic qualifications.
The opening of its operations will lead to hiring employees for corporate services, purchasing, research and development, and operations among others. Those interested in applying for a job vacancy should visit the firm's career website.
This is one of many international firms hiring in Costa Rica. Last week, the U.S.-based manufacturing company, Samtec, announced the growth of its operations in Alajuela Province.
Costa Rica's unemployment remains at 7.3%, according to the National Employment Survey. Data recorded from Oct. to Dec. 2023 shows more than 164,000 people without registered jobs. Of these, 95,000 are men, making up 58% of the unemployed people in the country.
