The Traffic Police announced there will not be a restriction on vehicle plate numbers in San José City during the holidays.

The benefit will apply from Monday, Dec. 25 to Friday, Jan. 5, 2023. During those days, drivers with any license plate number were free to move on any weekday in the city.

The rule was paused due to the traffic reduction when most of the public institutions, commercial firms and public schools were on vacation, according to the Ministry of Public Transports.

As a result, the no-driving rule does not apply in the zone within the capital city known as the Circunvalación Route or Route 39, which encompasses all of the streets that surround the capital city.

Police warn travelers to respect the rules as they’ll be out in full force. They launched "Safe Christmas Operation" to provide more surveillance and security during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The Traffic Police will resume their usual driving restrictions on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.
