An upcoming road closure near the SJO airport has sparked concerns about potential traffic bottlenecks.

As of this week, one lane of a section of Route 153 Francisco J. Orlich Highway, between the provinces of San José and Alajuela, will be closed to traffic, which may result in traffic jams.

As one of the busiest airports in the region, any disruption to the surrounding roadways could have significant impacts on travelers and commuters alike.

The Ministry of Public Transport warned that the closures in one way of the highway, from Alajuela to San José, are due to the construction of a new road near Juan Santamarķa International Airport (SJO).

In light of ongoing road construction, the need for completely closing two lanes cannot be avoided. This will inevitably result in significant changes being implemented within the traffic flow of the remaining two lanes.

The National Road Council's recent announcement regarding the commencement of a major construction project has garnered attention nationwide. With plans to work around the clock, the council aims to complete the project within three months, ensuring minimal disruption to the public and enhancing the overall transportation infrastructure.

The construction of a new highway is poised to reshape transportation infrastructure as it brings forth a significant financial investment of nearly $2 million covered by the Ministry of Public Transports budget.

Spearheading this ambitious project is MECO, a contracted private company with a proven track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects in Costa Rica.

Authorities are urging drivers to avoid crossing through the road construction zone. Instead, alternative routes may be used to get to Alajuela or San José.

For drivers who travel through the construction zone, there will be traffic officers regulating the route of vehicles.
