Last year closed with 517 deaths in traffic accidents, Traffic Police reported.
According to the Ministry of Public Transports records, 33 additional deaths were recorded in 2023 compared to 484 fatalities in 2022, representing a 6.9% rise.
Of the total number of fatalities, 253 were motorcyclists (48%), 57 were drivers, 38 were cyclists, and the remainder were passengers, pedestrians, or individuals driving other types of vehicles.
Speeding (204 fatalities), breaching opposite lines (109 deaths), DUI (31 fatalities), and pedestrian recklessness (62 cases) were among the top causes of these road accidents, according to authorities. People can report suspects of reckless driving behavior to the Traffic Law by dialing the 911 emergency line.
