Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), headquartered in Louisville, has announced an $8 million investment to expand its presence in Costa Rica.

The fast-food chain plans to open six new restaurants in the provinces of Alajuela, Cartago, and San José, creating at least 150 new jobs. Additionally, the company will make improvements to more than 10 existing locations.

Founded by Colonel Harland Sanders in 1930, KFC is renowned for its fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, wraps, fries, soft drinks, and desserts.

The first KFC in Costa Rica opened in 1970 in San José, established by Scottish entrepreneur Ian Patton. Today, KFC operates 60 restaurants across the country.

The franchise is the world’s second-largest restaurant chain by sales, trailing only McDonald’s, with more than 30,000 locations in 150 countries. In December 2023, KFC reported over $2.83 billion in revenue.

The company is currently hiring for various positions in its restaurants and administrative offices. Applicants over 18 can visit KFC’s careers website for more information.

KFC is one of several American restaurant chains that are investing in Costa Rica. This week, Starbucks announced plans to invest $11 million in its expansion.
