Heraeus Medevio, a technology company headquartered in Hanau, Germany, announced the expansion of its operations in the Lima Free Trade Zone industrial park located in Cartago Province.
With an investment of $20 million and a projection of 500 new jobs, they officially completed Phase II of its facilities.
This expansion will double the site’s size to over 108,000 square feet (approximately 10,000 m2) to manufacture guidewires, snare kits, and neuromodulation leads for the medical device industry. They recently added additional capabilities, including catheters, to its production lines this year.
According to Peter Reimer, President of Heraeus Medevio, the expansion is an opportunity to explore new ways of supporting current and future partnerships. “Heraeus Medevio is on track for double-digit growth, continuing toward our vision of improving 100 million lives every year."
Construction
will start in the third quarter of this
year, with expected completion in late
2024. The company
is actively hiring professionals, and
graduates, for its departments of
Manufacturing and Production, Research
and Development, Marketing and Sales
among others. Those
interested should visit their website. Heraeus is
one of many international firms
investing in Costa Rica. Recently,
the Irish firm Experian announced its
operation expansion in Costa Rica. Even though
new businesses are creating jobs, the
unemployment rate remains at 9.7%,
according to the National Employment
Survey. Data recorded from February to
April 2023, shows that there are more
than 224,000 people without registered
jobs. Of these, 121,000 are women,
making up 54% of the unemployed people
in the country.
