Nothing says "Happy Independence Day!" like the colors of the beautiful Costa Rica flag in a delicious smoothie. It is even better if you enjoy smoothies and need a cooler drink to beat the heat after attending the morning parades.

Costa Rica's flag colors represent togetherness, peace, and hope. Red represents the Costa Rican people, white represents the peace in a country with no army, and blue represents the sky, a symbol of optimism.

This smoothie, filled with fruits and condensed milk, is the perfect way to celebrate Costa Rica's birthday, and your kids will love the stripes!

So, let's go to the kitchen.

For 3 to 5 servings, the ingredients you will need are:

  • 2 cups strawberries, frozen, sweetened, whole ( or a few drops of red food colorant works and 2 cups of crushed ice).

  • 1 cup of strawberry juice.

  • 2 medium bananas.

  • 1 cup of condensed milk.

  • 2 cups of frozen blueberries (or a few drops of blue food colorant and 2 cups of crushed ice).

  • 1 cup of blueberry juice.

First, start by blending the red-layer ingredients together: the strawberries and strawberry juice. Pour into individual glasses, about 1/3 full. Set glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes.

The option is adding a few drops of red food coloring to 2 cups of crushed ice and stirring until you get the desired color.

Remember to rinse out the blender jar to remove any remaining red layer mixture.

Then, add in your white-layer ingredients (the bananas and condensed milk). Blend until smooth. Pour the white layer over the frozen red layer, filling about 2/3 full. Set glasses back in the freezer for 15 minutes.

Again, rinse out the blender jar to remove any remaining white layer mixture.

Then, add
in your blue-layer ingredients (frozen blueberries and blueberry juice). Blend until smooth. Pour the blue layer over the frozen white layer, filling to the top.

Also, the option is to add a few drops of blue food coloring to 2 cups of crushed ice and stir until you get the desired color.

Serve layered with a straw and decorate with fruit stir sticks. These take no time to assemble, simply place cut berries in wooden skewers, freeze and insert into the glass.

Kids will love these fun and colorful smoothies!

Have a Pura Vida Independence Day!
