On Wednesday, the Municipality of San José announced that for more than a month, all parking meters in the city will be free of charge for vehicular parking time.

According to the local government, drivers of all types of vehicles can park for free in a parking meter area for five weeks, from Wednesday, July 24 to Wednesday, August 28.

The benefit is accessible while the municipality is currently modernizing the online parking ticket payment system.

The municipality spent around $377,000 to hire a new company to implement the new online parking meter system.

The city government had the obligation to replace the system after its agreement with Epark-CR, the private firm that enabled the current online parking ticket payment, expired.
