The U.S. Embassy is inviting American citizens living in Puerto Viejo, in Limón province, to attend a Passport Renewal Event with American Citizens Services representatives.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, at 5 p.m. at La Costa de Papito Hotel in Cocles Beach.

Embassy officials said all passport service fees must be paid in advance through Pay.gov. Cash payments will not be accepted, and payments not properly completed through the platform will not be processed at the event.

Applicants are required to bring a completed passport application form. Adults renewing a 10-year passport must submit Form DS-82, while first-time adult applicants and children under 16 must use Form DS-11.

Each application must include a printed Pay.gov payment confirmation, one passport photo (2 inches by 2 inches or 5 centimeters by 5 centimeters), and original supporting documents, such as a current passport or birth certificate, along with photocopies of each.

On-site printing services will not be available.

For minors under age 16, both parents must be present and sign the application. Applicants ages 16 and 17 must have one parent’s signature. All minor applications must include an original birth certificate and a photocopy.

Passport fees are $130 for adult renewals (DS-82), $165 for first-time adult passports (DS-11, age 16 and older) with expedited processing, and $135 for minors under 16 (DS-11).

Application forms can be downloaded from the embassy website, the U.S. Citizen Services Navigator, or the Travel State website.

New passports will be available for pickup at the U.S. Embassy in San José approximately four weeks after submission.

Applicants dealing with lost, stolen or damaged passports must schedule an appointment at the embassy. These cases cannot be processed at the town hall. Appointments can be made by emailing ACSSanJose@state.gov or by visiting the embassy website.

For more information about passport renewals or future town hall meetings, individuals can call the embassy at (506) 2519-2000, or from the United States at 011-506-2519-2000, or visit the embassy website.

In related developments, President-elect Laura Fernández recently met with U.S. Ambassador Melinda Hildebrand at the U.S. Embassy in San José to discuss shared priorities between Costa Rica and the United States.
