On Saturday




Experience the Reset Show Dance at the Eugene O’Neill Theater in San José, a bold performance that explores the complex relationship between humans and technology. Catch two shows at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office or online via Pretix.




The National Theater in San José is turning up the volume for the National Bands Gala Concert. Get ready for an unforgettable night featuring the country’s top municipal bands, plus powerhouse performances by tenor Ono Mora and soprano Elsa Castro. The music starts at 7 p.m., and admission’s free.







On Saturday and Sunday




Immerse yourself in the magic of Shakespeare Night Show at the Melico Salazar Theater in San José. The Costa Rican Dance Company teams up with the National Orchestra for a stunning show inspired by Shakespeare’s legendary works, including Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Macbeth.  Saturday: show kicks off at 7 p.m. Sunday: show starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the theater box office or online via Eticket. 




Head out to the Palenke Tonjibe in Guatuso Canton, Alajuela, where the Maleku Indigenous Community Cultural Fair is bringing the culture and good vibes all weekend long. Expect traditional music, vibrant dancing, local sports, and delicious folk food that’ll have you coming back for seconds. Festivities kick off at noon, and admission’s free.










On Sunday





Jacó Beach in Puntarenas is hosting the Half Marathon. Hit the sand with options for 2K, 5K, and 10K runs right along the stunning beach. The action kicks off at 5 a.m.




Gear up, Paraiso Canton in Cartago, with the National Rallycross Championship is tearing up Campo Ayala Events Center. Watch the country’s top drivers push their limits in an adrenaline-packed showdown. Racing kicks off at 10 a.m., and tickets are up for grabs at the box office.




Calling all anime and art lovers. The Anime Art Expo hits Antigua Aduana Events Center in San José with the country’s top illustrators, painters, and art vendors all under one roof. Doors open at noon and admission’s free.









This weekend




 


The Ride Cultura Festival, backed by the Ministry of Culture, brings energy to the cantons of Oreamuno, Guadalupe, Paraiso, Tierra Blanca, and Llano Grande in Cartago Province. The event offers live music, dance, sports, art, film screenings, literacy workshops, and more, all free and open to everyone. Want the full lineup of events? Check out the Ministry’s website.




The Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Limón are bringing the city to life with a full-on Limón Carnival celebration. Expect parades, Caribbean eats, live music, family games, sports, and a closing concert every night. The fun kicks off daily at noon at Limon City Central Park, and it’s free for everyone.




The Fuentes-Gasca Circus just rolled into the Buenos Aires Fairland in Puntarenas. It’s a full-on show packed with energy, laughter, and jaw-dropping stunts. We’re talking high-flying trapeze acts, crazy-good jugglers, live music, dancers, clowns that’ll have you cracking up, and a whole lot of magic. Shows run every day at 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Grab your tickets right at the box office. 




The Heredia Community Cultural Fair is taking over in San Rafael Canton Central Park in Heredia. The fair includes live music, dancing, sports, a horse parade, tasty food trucks, bullfights, and even a playground for the kids. It all kicks off at noon. It’s totally free.  









The Ajaluela Community Cultural Fair is lighting up San Rafael Canton Fairland in Alajuela. Expect a full day of beats, dancing, local sports, food trucks, and plenty of fun for the little ones. Things get rolling at noon, and it’s free to get in.




The Cartago Community Cultural Fair is taking over the Aquiares District in Turrialba Canton, Cartago. Think music, dancing, sports, and a huge horse parade, food trucks, bullfights, and a playground too. The fair begins at noon. Free admission.





The Expressivo Theater in San José is putting on "1984," a powerful stage adaptation of George Orwell’s classic novel. It’s a sharp, modern take on life in a world full of surveillance and twisted truths. Showtimes are 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 6 p.m. on Sunday.  Grab your tickets at the theater box office or online.




"Crazy Lucky" at the Máscara Theater in San José. The comedy follows the hilarious chaos that unfolds when a group of friends gets together. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the theater’s box office.




The Torres Theater in San José is featuring the comedy play "Orgasms."  The show takes a funny and honest look at the complexities of modern relationships. Showtimes: on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 6 p.m. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased at the theater box office. Please note, the show is for audiences 15 years old and older.







The Moliere Theater in San José shows the comedy play "Papichulo" (Handsome Daddy). The story follows a thief who ends up in all kinds of crazy trouble while trying to rob a house full of women. Showtimes:  Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the theater box office.





Head to the Lucho Barahona Theater in San José is serving up laughs with "Rent An Aunt," a comedy set in the 18th century. The story follows the Count of Villalpando’s family and all the wild chaos that breaks out when everyone’s chasing a big inheritance. Showtimes: Friday & Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the theater box office.






Get ready for laughs at the Triciclo Theater in San José with "Suegras Bárbaras" (Crazy Mothers-in-Law). This hilarious comedy follows a couple on vacation who, thanks to an unexpected twist, find themselves having to bring their mother-in-law along for the ride. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are available at the theater box office.

The Diquis Museum in Palmar Sur, Osa, Puntarenas offers walking tours through the archaeological zone of Finca Sitio 6. Tours are available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with tickets costing $7 and are available on-site.





The Art Museum in downtown La Sabana, San José, presents private collections of Latin American artists. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ticket is $15.



 



The Gold Museum in downtown San José presents an exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. Also, in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $15.




The National Museum in downtown San José, presents an exhibition of Costa Rica's history and handmade artifacts, including some more than 12,000 years old, made by the first peoples of the region. Museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ticket is $11.
