On Friday



Music and culture come together at the National Theater in San José with “Touching Portugal,” a unique performance inspired by Portugal’s rich folk music traditions. Presented by the Rumos Ensemble, the show features a carefully selected collection of traditional music from ten different Portuguese regions, arranged for a trio of violin, clarinet, and piano. The experience is enhanced by screenings of previously unreleased films from each region, showcasing Portugal’s stunning landscapes and architectural treasures. Head to the Fairland Farmers Market in Grecia Canton, Alajuela, for a community tree-planting campaign organized by the Municipality of Grecia. As part of its reforestation efforts, the municipality will be giving away free trees to residents who have space on their properties to plant them. The event begins at 9 a.m. Admission is free.





The sounds of the Marching Bands Parade will fill the streets of Golfito Canton, Puntarenas, during a special parade organized by the local municipality. The event begins at 3 p.m. at the Golfito Municipal Building and makes its way to the Small Pier Plaza. Admission is free.




Diesel Rock Band takes the stage at Jazz Café Pub in Escazú, San José, delivering a high-energy set packed with rock favorites from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. The concert starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the venue’s box office.







On Saturday



 


The Eugene O’Neill Theater in San José brings traditional Costa Rican culture to the stage with “Raíces de mi Tierra.” This innovative ballet reimagines classic Costa Rican folk dances through the artistry and technique of ballet performers, creating a fresh take on beloved traditions. The show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the theater box office.











On Saturday and Sunday




The Melico Salazar Theater in San José welcomes acclaimed Christian music artist Ingrid Rosario for a powerful concert experience accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestra. The National Theater in San José presents the comedy “To the Moon,” a heartwarming production inspired by a grandmother’s memories of Apollo 11, the historic American mission that first landed humans on the Moon and became NASA’s fifth crewed Apollo mission. Inspired by the changing seasons, the performance blends movement and storytelling in a colorful celebration of nature’s cycles. The colorful Oxen Parade rolls into Pueblo Nuevo District in Zarcero Canton, Alajuela. Along with the parade, visitors can enjoy a community fair packed with children’s games, sports activities, live music, and food vendors. The parade kicks off at 9 a.m. from Central Park. Admission is free.




Garbo Theater in San José presents a special screening of “Don Quixote” from the Royal Opera House in the United Kingdom, featuring the Royal Ballet & Opera. Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ timeless Spanish masterpiece, “The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha,” first published between 1605 and 1615, this celebrated production brings one of literature’s most iconic stories to life through dance. This Weekend





La Cruz Canton in Guanacaste will host the Ocean Festival, a celebration of marine conservation and community connection organized by the Santa Elena Marine Citizen Science organization. The event brings together environmental activities, educational talks, sports, and cultural experiences focused on protecting the ocean and strengthening ties between coastal communities and marine ecosystems. Friday’s schedule features a major cultural celebration in La Cruz, including morning beach cleanups in Cuajiniquil and Jobo, along with a fair featuring information booths, a photography exhibit, and parades in La Cruz’s Central Park. On Saturday, activities move to Jobo Beach for a large community gathering with talks from local fishermen, guided nature walks, educational booths, a youth beach rally, and an acoustic concert. Sunday’s closing events take place at Junquillal Bay National Wildlife Refuge and include recreational mountain biking, guided walks, a kayaking competition, an entrepreneurship fair, and family-friendly recreational activities. Festival events begin daily at 9 a.m. Admission is free.




Over at  Escenario Theater in San José, the comedy "Toc Toc" brings the laughs with a wild setup: a group of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder stuck together in a waiting room. Yeah, it gets chaotic in the best way. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office or online.









Lucho Barahona Theater in San José is serving up laughs with “El que busca, encuentra" ("Track Down"), a comedy based on a play by French writer Marc Camoletti. The setup? Four women sharing a house, each trying to fix their personal drama by secretly posting classified ads. Sounds simple—until their plans crash into each other and everything spirals into hilarious chaos with potential roommates and plenty of conflict. Shows run Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the theater box office or online.




Tricycle Theater in San José is putting a fun twist on mystery with “Shear Madness,” based on the German play “Scherenschnitt” by Paul Pörtner. This interactive comedy drops you right into a unisex hair salon where a famous pianist upstairs gets murdered—and suddenly everyone’s a suspect. Expect laughs, surprises, and a chance to be part of the action. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the theater box office or online.




The Fuentes Gasca Circus is in town, and it’s bringing nonstop action all weekend in next to Santa Ana Megasuper supermarket in San José. Expect high-flying trapeze acts, sharp juggling, live music, dancers, and clowns that actually land the jokes. There’s just enough magic in the mix to keep things moving fast and fun.
